Detective Paul Gonzales has retired from the Albuquerque Police Department after 21 years of honorable service.  Detective Gonzales joined the Albuquerque Police Department in 1989 serving in several assignments during his career.  He worked in patrol (Field Services Bureau), DWI unit, Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART), crime scene, Westside Area Command Impact Detective Unit and the auto theft unit.

Detective Paul Gonzales was also an active member of the Navy Reserve as a Master of Arms non-commissioned officer.  Paul was deployed several times with the Navy while employed with the Albuquerque Police Department.  Paul was deployed during the Bosnia call-up and after 9-11.

Detective Gonzales earned respect from his fellow auto theft investigators throughout New Mexico for his dedication and attention to detail in the cases he worked.  Detective Gonzales was the go-to-guy in vehicle identification, Spanish translation and working organized auto theft rings.  Paul excelled in every assignment and the team never heard a negative word from Paul.  Paul was also an active member of IAATI, SCRC chapter.

While off-duty, Detective Paul Gonzales enjoys playing golf, camping, fishing and spending time with his family.  After retirement, Paul took a few weeks off to complete “honey-do” lists at home then went back to work as a University of New Mexico police officer.  The auto theft team will miss Paul in the office but they still keep in touch.
