Region 3 News
Region 3a Director: John Bailey, Comal County Sheriff's Office
Region 3b Director: Bobby Bailey, Guadalupe Co. Sheriff's Office
Submitted by John Bailey
In the
early morning hours of 12-21-2007, a Comal
County deputy made a traffic stop on a Chevrolet truck pulling a trailer
with a Honda ATV. The deputy documented and videotaped the traffic stop.
On 12-26-2007 Detective John Bailey with the SCATT Task Force identified the
vehicles as being stolen the same night that the traffic stop was made. On
the night of 12-26-2007 a different Comal County deputy stopped a Chevrolet
truck pulling a trailer with a new Bobcat skid steer on it. The driver was
a 65 year old career criminal currently on parole. The driver was arrested
for having the wrong license plate on the trailer, and the trailer and
Bobcat were impounded at the Comal County SO impound yard. The same driver
and Chevrolet truck and trailer were involved in both traffic stops. The
suspect bonded out of jail on 12-27-2007 before Detective Bailey identified
the Bobcat as having just been stolen in Williamson County and the trailer
had been stolen in Bandera County. At 10:30PM on 12-29-2007 the suspect
burglarized the Comal County SO impound lot and stole the Bobcat and an
altered 2002 Big Tex trailer that had previously been seized by Detective
Bailey. The suspect returned the stolen Bobcat to the original victim in
Williamson County and parked it in the exact same spot where he had stolen
it. The suspect thought that since it was the holidays that he could return
the Bobcat to the owner before he even knew it was missing. On 01-02-2008
the suspect went to his monthly meeting with his parole officer where he was
met by Detective Rudy Woods with the SCATT Task Force and Brad Harden with
Texas DPS/MVTS. The suspect was arrested for newly issued warrants for the
theft of the Honda ATV and the Bobcat and his parole officer revoked his
parole. This suspect is believed to be involved in numerous thefts in the
central and south Texas areas and is also believed to have acreage in the
George West and Alice areas. We believe the suspect is storing stolen
property on this acreage. The suspect is identified as James Autry Whited,
W/M, 03-24-1942. Anyone having information on the suspect or where his
acreage might be located contact Detective John Bailey at 830-743-3120.
