El Paso had seen a surge of sport motorcycle thefts in the area -- subjects were targeting busy parking lots and apartment complexes.  The auto theft task force received a call advising that five subjects were seen loading a motorcycle onto the bed of a truck from 1580 George Dieter (Whisky Dicks Night Club parking lot). Auto theft task force officers quickly responded along with patrol to the area. A 2008 black Chevy Silverado was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Patrol officers assisted and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Ed Merrins and George Dieter. The stolen motorcycle was found on the bed of the truck, two adults and three juveniles were detained. The two adults provided a voluntary statement of accused. All five subjects were charged with theft O/1500, adults were booked into the County Jail and juveniles were referred to Juvenile Probation Department. Since their arrest (custody) the thefts have seized for now.

On March 15, 2011, El Paso Auto Theft Task force members responded to 900 Ameca to assist Mission Valley Patrol on a recovered stolen vehicle.  The officers met with patrol officer who advised that he was dispatched on a possible stolen vehicle. Upon arrival officer Tellez checked the vehicle and learned that it had been stolen out of Socorro, TX the night before. ATTF officers took over the investigation.

ATTF Officer Aguirre learned of a “subject of interest” to the above listed case. The owner of the truck advised that prior to the theft the night before, someone had called and asked what time the owner’s business closed.   The next day, the owner went to open the business and found it burglarized and his truck stolen.  A check of the call regarding closing time revealed a phone number that came back to an address on Parral.  ATTF officers conducted research on the address and found that Joseph Carter, who is a known burglar, lived at the house, which was located only 100 yards to where the vehicle was located. Officers proceeded to the residence, made contact with Joseph Carter and a second male, Aaron Solares. Officers were able to prove that the two subjects’ MO was to call businesses in the county, find out their hours of operation, and once the business was closed and all employees had left, the two subjects would burglarize the businesses, loading up the work trucks and taking tools and material.  A check of both subjects revealed that they had several outstanding warrants for aggravated robbery with the sheriff’s department and with El Paso PD. Both subjects were arrested and booked into the county jail.  The vehicle was recovered -- all tools and material had already been unloaded.  Vehicle was a 1997 black Ford F450.

El Paso Auto Theft Task Force personnel, Officer Olivares and Sgt. Ceniceros, while working with ICE (DHS), received information from a source that a business was storing stolen equipment. The equipment was sent from Colorado to a business on Paisano, and paperwork was being processed so that the equipment would be exported into Mexico. Officers set up in the perimeter and observed as a John Deere Tractor left the gated area.  A traffic stop was conducted by officers Gil and Moreno at Delta and Cole.  The PIN had been tampered with -- the John Deere tractor came back stolen. Driver advised that he was taking the tractor to a business on Cole where it was going to be stored to be picked up later.  The driver was in possession of paperwork indicating that the equipment came from Sermex. Consent to search was obtained from the caretaker at Cole.  A Bobcat front loader was located in the property and came back as stolen, also with the numbers changed. The caretaker advised that the property belonged to the owner of Sermex -- he showed up at the business soon after she called.  Officers learned that the business was located on Paisano, consent to search was obtained, and officers located a 2010 Bobcat which came back as stolen (numbers changed).  Officers also located an Artic Cat 400 Quad -- the numbers had been scratched off.  All equipment was picked up and stored by Sun City Wrecker.   On 01-20-2011 ATTF Officers returned to the business and met with the owner, who advised that the person that was trying to export the equipment also left a trailer with two jet skies and a quad. The Jet Ski’s and the trailer came back as stolen -- the quad was taken in for further examination.  All the equipment was stolen from Colorado.  The subjects are changing one or two numbers, completing export paperwork and exporting the equipment to Mexico.
